The RIOXX Guidelines and Application Profile provide a mechanism for institutional repositories in use in the UK Higher Education sector to comply with the RCUK policy on open access. Developed by EDINA, Chygrove Ltd and (previously) UKOLN, working closely with RCUK who have acted as sponsor and Jisc who have funded this work, RIOXX focuses on applying consistency to the metadata fields used to record research funder and project/grant identifiers. RIOXX will support the consistent tracking of open-access research publications across scholarly systems.
The RIOXX guidelines offer clear and practical guidance to organisations wanting to attribute research outcome information to specific funders and research grants in their repositories
The RIOXX metadata application profile has been developed with input from HEFCE to help repositories to comply with the open access policy for the next REF. We support its uptake and use.
It is important for UK universities to start to plan to engage and implement the RIOXX metadata application profile as soon as possible as it will support greater automation of collection of information on publications and other research outcomes
