The RIOXX Guidelines and Application Profile provide a mechanism to help institutional repositories comply with the RCUK policy on open access. RIOXX focuses on applying consistency to the metadata fields used to record research funder and project/grant identifiers and is designed to support the consistent tracking of open-access research publications across scholarly systems.
The RIOXX metadata application profile and guidelines have been developed by EDINA and Chygrove Ltd (and previously by UKOLN), working closely with RCUK who have acted as sponsor and in collaboration with HEFCE who support and endorse this work. This work was aided by funding and support from Jisc.
The RIOXX guidelines offer clear and practical guidance to organisations wanting to attribute research outcome information to specific funders and research grants in their repositories
The RIOXX metadata application profile has been developed with input from HEFCE to help repositories to comply with the open access policy for the next REF. We support its uptake and use.
It is important for UK universities to start to plan to engage and implement the RIOXX metadata application profile as soon as possible as it will support greater automation of collection of information on publications and other research outcomes
